Muscle Energy Techniques
Muscle Energy Techniques
Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) are a safe and effective form of manual therapy that use gentle muscle contractions to improve mobility, reduce pain, and restore joint positions in the body. Unlike passive stretching, MET involves the active participation of the client, making it a collaborative and highly effective approach.
How It Works
The therapist positions the client’s body in a way that engages specific muscles. The client is then asked to gently contract the muscle against the therapist’s resistance. After a brief contraction, the muscle naturally relaxes and can be stretched more effectively. This process helps reset muscle length, improve joint function, and release restrictions in both muscles and fascia.
Who It Helps
Muscle Energy Techniques may benefit people with:
■ Restricted range of motion in joints or muscles
■ Postural imbalances
■ Chronic muscle tightness or stiffness
■ Low back, neck, or shoulder pain
■ Sports injuries or recovery needs
What to Expect
Sessions are interactive but gentle—clients play an active role by engaging their muscles while the therapist provides guidance and resistance. Many people notice increased flexibility, reduced tension, and improved posture immediately after treatment.
